Trade Card THOMPSON TOOL CO., Manufacturers of Thompson's Pat. Bench Plane, &c., &c., No. 14 Chardon Street, Boston. c1874. George M. Thompson, of Boston, Massachusetts, patented an Improvement In Bench Planes, U.S. Patent # 153,399, July 21, 1874. The reverse states that the rights to this patent, and others, are for sale. Mr. Thompson was more of an inventor than a manufacturer?
Trade Card D. R. BARTON TOOL CO. Sole Manufacturers of Genuine D. R. Barton Edge Tools. c1876. Most likely made for the Centennial Exhibition of 1876. This card dates to before the Mack Tool Company bought out the D. R. Barton brand.
Trade Card CHAPIN'S SOLID CHERRY LEVEL. 12 inch polished cherry level with handsome nickel plated top plate. No. 100. Packed one dozen in pasteboard box. Write For Prices. The H. Chapin's Son, Co., Pine Meadow, Conn. c?. Not really a trade card, but of the same size. Most likely a sales hand-out to hardware dealers.
Trade Card L. & I. J. WHITE MANUFACTURERS OF EDGE TOOLS and Machine Knives, 310, 312, 314 Exchange Street, Buffalo, N.Y. c1870. Great image of their store / factory ? puffing smoke. A little bit out of perspective. The reverse, or front (depending upon your choice) is another of those typical lithographic trade cards. Unless you can tell me how an image of a cute little girl in a bonnet relates to edge tools?
Trade Card WHEELER, MADDEN & CLEMSON MFG. CO.'S AND WOODROUGH & MCPARLIN'S DEHORNING SAW. The National Saw Co., 96 & 98 Reade Street, New York City. A mighty long manufacturers name for one saw. My guess is that the National Saw Co. had a crowded conference room during the annual report.
Trade Card WENTWORTH'S PATENT NOISELESS SAW VISES c1880. Humorous trade card (unfortunately missing the lower section due to the destructive scissor cuts of some benighted Victorian Scrap-booker). Obviously saw sharpening is a n annoyance to both man and beast.
