Includes machinery of their own manufacture as well as R. Ball and Woodrough patent designs. It's unusual to find a paper covered catalog of this period with the cover intact.

W. F. & John Barnes Co., Price List, Descriptive Catalogue, Barnes Patent Foot, Hand and Steam Power Machinery... Rockford, Illinois. c1880. The famous Barnes Bros. produced the finest foot, hand and steam powered machinery. To this day, their products are highly sought after and resurrected for use. Most likely printed just after 1880, this catalog offers the full line, with accessories.

LUTHER'S TOOL GRINDERS. LUTHER GRINDER MFG. CO., MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, U.S.A. c1920. Featuring one of the best catalog covers ever, this small catalog is a perfect example of one company's use of paper advertising to tell the world that they had moved into the modern machine age. Great Arte Deco design. Take a close look and you can see the sparks flying from the grinding wheel. Quite a cover for something so mundane as a grinder.

NEW LOMBARD MOUNTED STONES. WOOD POWER MOUNTED GRINDSTONE, HAND AND FOOT POWER GRINDSTONE, BENCH POWER GRINDSTONE. LOMBARD AND COMPANY, INC. Winter Hill Station 45, Boston, Mass. Nov. 12, 1952. Dec. 3, 1954. As late a date as my birth year, you could purchase a foot powered grindstone. So much for our assumptions on dating tools. It looks as if the design has not changed since the turn of the century.
